Amy Wood Artist

Favourite Music

Music has been my friend through every phase of my life. My kids don’t know that most Mums play wiggles songs in the car instead of AC/DC and Paul Kelly.

My art leans on music as the soundtrack. Quiet and thoughtful when I am concentrating or tired. Latin dance music when I am in the mood for bopping round my workshop trying to practice my steps.

I tend to pick an album that suits my mood and play it on loop for a month/or year. I think my ex-husband knew it was over when Adele was my soundtrack.

Pink got me through the otherside. Suddenly Lady Gaga made sense.

Paul Kelly and Jimmy Barnes are soundtracks for my whole life. The Chilli Peppers are pretty sexist but holy cow those guys know how to make music. Ed Sheeran is in there too.

Kev Carmody’s music moves me. I love the way he paints the bush so vividly with his words. I admire the courage with which he illustrates the disparity in our society.

I discovered The Chicks through a friend and love their take on life.

The latest album I am playing on loop is by a band I had never heard of Larkin Poe – Bloom (I saw a video of one of their songs on facebook).

I love the quiet triumph. I feel like these women have tried being other people and wound up accepting and celebrating who they are. That’s what I want.

This album is somehow slightly more optimistic, maybe I am too.
